EPL: Man City shrug off uncertain future to beat 10-man Liverpool 3-0

Manchester City beat 10-man Liverpool 3-0 at Anfield on Sunday, in their first game since being found guilty on more than 100 charges of breaking Premier League financial rules.
The first half had no clear-cut chances. The game turned when Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch was sent off in the 62nd minute for a second yellow card, after a challenge on substitute Jérémy Doku. Within three minutes Erling Haaland put City ahead in the 65th minute with a first-time finish after Doku’s shot was deflected to him. Three minutes later Doku curled a superb shot over goalkeeper Alisson, and Rayan Cherki added the third.
The result keeps City at the top of the table with a perfect record of six wins from six league games under Enzo Maresca. It was also a first defeat for new Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola, who was without the injured Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo. Haaland has now scored eight goals in his last eight appearances against Liverpool in all competitions.
City are appealing the guilty verdict and maintain their innocence. Maresca said his players’ focus was on the game, not the charges, and they answered a hostile Anfield crowd on the pitch.
