Former Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has called on Nigerians to hold political leaders accountable and to insist that the rule of law is respected. He warned that the country will keep moving in circles unless citizens come together to choose credible leaders.

He said Nigerians must move beyond identity politics and unite behind the right candidates. Voters, he added, should examine campaign promises closely and demand that elected officials deliver on them once they take office.

Osinbajo stressed that accountability is a continuous duty for citizens and not something to remember only during election periods.

To show what is at stake, he pointed to the experiences of ordinary Nigerians who turned to the justice system after losing property, land, livelihoods or family support. He also referred to the World Justice Project's 2024 Rule of Law Index, which he said shows serious weaknesses in how accessible and effective Nigeria's justice system is.

The justice system, he said, should be judged by its outcomes: whether ordinary people actually get meaningful results.
